Guidelines And Tips For Styling Hair That Gives A Flat Top

By

Read on to know how to save money and time by styling your kid's or husband's hair that gives a flat top.

Some men have head shaped in a particular way and all that they can style their hair with is a flat top look, my dear husband is just one of them. Other hairstyles are either time consuming or don't look good. This style is easy to maintain and suits a lot of men and it suited my husband too.

For a hairdo with a flat top to remain particularly so, it needs lots of "upkeep". It might prove to be expensive eventually because it requires many trips to the salon, may be once every fortnight. So when my husband asked me first if I could do the grooming bit for him to keep the flat top at home. I at first thought it would be a bad idea. But when I actually agreed to do it for him, I realized it was an easy job. I regularly do my husband's hair since then as we both were happy with the results.

The basic steps for a hairdo with flat top are observing, the right tools and of course getting the cut right. The next time you take an appointment with your stylist just observe how he cuts, holds the tools and completes the process of styling.

Next and the most important step would be the right tools. It might seem an expensive trip to the beauty supply store but eventually it is worth it. A specific comb for flat top is very important. It appears somewhat the same as detangling comb, as it has a handle and is six inches in width. However, the teeth are flat and longer. The secret here is the bubble level that the comb has that helps achieving a straight and flat top. Also necessary are good electric clippers, the size is not an issue but the motor needs to be strong. And the most important is the shears you would use to cut. Also buy a cape if need be to catch all the clips. It is hard to clean the towel or sheet that is used instead of the cape.

Choosing the right guard that helps getting the length desired is an important thing here. As here the most important thing is to perfectly remove the hair from the lower portion with clippers. The clippers are numbered and are variable to the length of the hair.

Slowly use the clipper in the upward direction starting at the base. You need to remove hair up to the region of the temple, leave the hair around the top. Don't move too fast as that might lead to pulling. Repeat the process to be sure you have not left any hair. Don't go up till the top or else you might end up in a crew cut. Do not use the clippers with the guard on now, and make sure you use the comb acting as a guide without touching the hair. At the angle desired, slide the flat top comb along the hair that needs to be cut. The angle would depend on what look you want - taper or straight. Make sure you see to it that both the sides of the hair are at the same angle.

Now, the bubble level of the comb comes into use when you make use of the flat topper to the crown of the head. Make sure the person whom you are styling is holding head in a straight position and then get rid of the remaining hair with the electric clippers.

Now it's time to revise your work. Check that hair is in level and be assured that the crown is leveled. Any long hair spotted can be touched up with help of scissors. Clean the area around ears and also the back of your neck with the clipper minus the guard. Practice is a must in this process and initially you will take time to get used to the process though.
